The 2019 Subaru Forester has arrived and is in stock, and although the new rendition isn’t offered in a manual gearbox, Subaru has essentially done a complete overhaul of the next-generation Forester to bring this vehicle to the height of its success. It sports enhanced driver assistance technologies, new infotainment systems, an even more spacious interior, a revised look and an engine and transmission that have been reworked from the ground up.
Fuel Efficient & Fun
The 2019 Forester is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine and a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) across four trims, with Subaru dropping the 2.0-litre base petrol, diesel 2.0d and turbo XT variants in order to bring as much as they can to the table with the 2.5-litre engine. Subaru has said the four-cylinder direct-injection boxer engine is completely revamped and boasts 136kW of power and 239Nm of torque, up from 126kW/235Nm in its predecessor. Direct injection and a thermo control valve, a first for Subaru, help the 2019 Forester achieve a fuel consumption of 7.4L/100km aided by idle stop/start technology. Full power can be seen at 5800rpm and maximum torque comes at 4400 rpm. And while it’s only offered as a CVT Auto, the 2019 Forester sports a seven-speed “manual” mode with paddle shifters, so drivers feel like they’re in complete control, as well as an X-Mode system with mud and snow settings to make the 2019 Forester more than capable for off-road driving. Its 220mm of ground clearance makes it rival most dual-cub utes.
Award Winning Technology
Subaru’s highly-lauded and award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is front, right and centre in the new 2019 Forester, coming as standard across all Forester trims. Some of the features that are to be a hit with Australian motorists are Lane-Keeping Assist up to 120 km/h, improved Pedestrian Avoidance, Pre-Collision Braking Assist as well as improved Adaptive Cruise Control which can detect brake lights in front of you. The 2019 Forester also has Electronic Parking Brakes, Blind-Spot Monitoring and Active Torque Vectoring as part pf Subaru’s world-renowned symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
New Subaru Global Platform
As seen with the new Impreza, the 2019 Forester sits on the new Subaru Global Platform, which the company says is a lighter chassis which improves straight-line stability when driving, reduces noise and vibration and boosts rider comfort, in addition to enhancing handling and responsiveness. The Forester’s body has grown by 22mm in width and 15mm in length, with an additional 30mm added to the wheelbase. All told, it brings an additional 20mm of room between the front occupants’ shoulders and 33mm more rear legroom, making for an extremely spacious interior. But even with its growth, the 2019 Forester is only 26 kilograms heavier than its predecessor.
The 2019 Forester sports the line’s signature high roofline and low beltline, with tall windows for an airy cabin feel and superb outward visibility. The interior has received a significant overhaul, with leather seats, high-gloss controls and an overall polished look. The interior is complete with bag hooks, a 12V socket and rear seatback releases in the wider and longer cargo area with a 520L capacity.
Available in Four Trims
The 2019 Forester is offered in four trims: the 2.5i, the 2.5i-L, the 2.5i Premium and the top-of-the-line 2.5i-S. The 2.5i comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels with a full-size spare, electric folding and heated door mirrors, adaptive LED headlights with LED day-time running lights, LED tail lights, automatic wipers, a 6.5-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents a six-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and keyless entry with push-button start. The 2.5iL is boosted with additional safety features, such as Driver Condition Monitoring, Reverse Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive High beam, as well as front and side cameras as part of the enhanced Vision Assist package.
Next in line is the 2.5i Premium, which sports eight-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function, snazzy 17-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, front fog lights, a larger 8.0-inch infotainment system with inbult navigation, one-touch folding rear seats, an upraded dash panel trim, upgraded cloth seat trim, auto-folding mirrors, alloy pedals and an auto-dipping passenger side mirror.
At the top of the line is the 2.5i-S, which adds a remodeled interior with leather trim, a black front grille with chrome surround, silver side mirrors and chrome and silver touches inside and out. It also includes a more premium dashboard and door trims, LED fog lights, an electric sunroof and a boosted eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system complete with a subwoofer.
